IT WILL SURPRISE no one that former Home of the Year judge Suzie McAdam’s home is a masterclass in how to make brave design decisions. The interior designer lovingly and cleverly refurbished this period property in Sandycove that she has called home since 2019.

Now on the market for €2.5 million through Bergins, 3 Hastings Terrace is a four-bed home full of classic Victorian features that have provided the backdrop for McAdam’s signature mix of elegant colours, marble finishes and striking wallpaper as well as fabrics.

When work began on this house in 2015, the plan was to turn the layout on its head. McAdam worked with the architecture firm Courtney McDonnell to achieve a number of major changes, from moving the stairs to placing the bedrooms on the ground floor and having the main social spaces on the first.

The result is a well-thought-out design that now spans 240 m² and makes the most of its location. Plenty of natural light flows into the kitchen and adjoining lounge, which make up the newer part of the house.

The kitchen is filled with high-end touches from cabinetry crafted by Newcastle Design to the Calacatta marble counters from Miller Brothers Stone. The more casual of the two living areas give fantastic views out to sea with Howth Head in the distance.

Elegant panelled floors, the original marble fireplace and restored original plasterwork ensure that the fabric of this house has been dealt with sympathetically. Here, McAdam has created a formal drawing room that’s ideal for hosting drinks before dinner is served in the dining room next door.

In the dining room, the open fireplace and custom bar that’s cleverly positioned to give guests a glimpse of the sea is bound to make for some memorable dinner parties.

Each of the four bedrooms are located downstairs with the master suite showcasing a gorgeous mix of calming soft colours, from the pale green wallpaper in the bedroom to the pink crane wallpaper in the en suite.

For anyone looking for a home on the south side of Dublin, Sandycove may need little in the way of introducing. Minutes from the sea, plenty of shops and your pick of schools, without a doubt, 3 Hastings Terrace isn’t just a pretty space – everything needed for everyday living, including the DART, is on its doorstep.

We have McAdam’s passion for a project to thank for 3 Hastings Terrace hitting the market. And, while she has her sights set on a new home to renovate, the fact that it’s in the same area can only be a positive sign.

3 Hastings Terrace, Sandycove Road, Sandycove, Co Dublin is on the market for €2,500,000 through Bergins Property Consultants.
