From a five-bed period home in Midleton to a modern four-bed in Ballycotton.

WHETHER YOU HAVE A large family, enjoy hosting house guests or just like having plenty of space to yourself, spacious detached homes always hold great appeal. Throw in great proximity to some of the countries most bustling towns and cities and you’re surely onto a winner.

This week we’re looking at four detached homes in Co Cork that aren’t just roomy inside but outside too – from a five-bed period home in Midleton to a modern four-bed in Ballycotton.

Ballyrussell, Midleton – €695,000

Ballyrussell is a four-bed family home that spans 265 m² set over two floors. Built in 1998, there’s also an annexe set over two levels which would make perfect private accommodation or a great home office. The house sits on about an acre and the garden that surrounds it includes lawns, trees and shrubs. Inside, the rooms have great flow and openness from one space to the next, while a great decking area leading from the kitchen is ideal for outdoor dining.

The house is close to a number of beaches including Ardnahinch, Ballynamona and Ballybrannigan and is just a 15-minute drive from Midleton town, while Ballymaloe Country House and Restaurant is its neighbour.

Ballynoe, Midleton – €695,000

Even bigger is Killasseragh, which has a floor area of 348 m² – and that’s just the main house. To the back of the property are three separate outbuildings. Dating back to the mid 19th century, the home has been extended and updated over the years to better suit modern living. Inside comprises an entrance hall that leads to a number of reception rooms as well as a library and a study. The garden can be accessed from the dining room at the back. As for space outside, five acres of grounds and gardens is sure to be enough.

A short distance from the villages of Ballynoe, Bridebridge and Castlelyons there are plenty of amenities nearby. This is countryside living without complete isolation with the larger towns of Middleton and Fermoy just 10 miles away, too.

Ballybrannigan Beach, Midleton – €720,000

Ballybrannigan House is a detached period property that was built in 1820. The property saw an extension in 2008 but hasn’t lost its historic charm – high ceilings, original coming and sash windows still feature throughout. Inside comprises a drawing room, dining room and then a kitchen/dining space along with a separate utility room and downstairs toilet. Four of the five bedrooms reside upstairs with the fifth, an ideal guest room or for someone with limited mobility, on the ground floor.

The home has two different access points and is surrounded by 1.4 of an acre of attractive gardens. There’s also a huge benefit of having Ballybrannigan beach just half a kilometre away. Midleton and Cork city are both a short trip in the car, as are bus routes to Ballycroneen national school.

Maytown, Ballycotton – €550,000

About 5 km from Ballycotton, this large 225 m² four-bedder sits on 1.3 acres. Seeing as it’s close to numerous beaches, it would make a luxurious holiday home, as well as a forever home, for whoever buys it. Built in 2001, inside comprises a collection of large spaces with double aspects so they are drenched in natural light. The large windows and doors certainly create an indoor/outdoor feeling that adds to the brightness.

This house is sure to suit the remote worker with young children in tow seeing as Churchtown South Montessori is a handy walk away, while Ballycotton National School is only a five-minute drive and secondary school buses do pick-up a mere half a mile away.
